Powder Coating Questions

What is powder coating?

Powder coating is a dry finishing process where a finely ground powder is electrostatically applied to a metal surface and then cured with heat. The result is a durable, even, and attractive finish that is tougher than traditional liquid paint, resistant to chips, scratches, corrosion, and fading.

Can you powder coat long lengths of aluminum extrusion?

Yes! Testrite Powder Coating specializes in powder coating long aluminum extrusions and steel tubing. We understand aluminum extrusions, whether you need all exterior surfaces finished, or only one visible side. We also account for extrusion geometry where nooks and crannies may require special attention in both dry-off and powder application. Our conveyorized system is designed for lengths up to 12 ft, delivering consistent, high-quality finishes on long lengths of aluminum extrusion and steel tubing.

What's the longest part you can powder coat?

We can powder coat parts up to 12 feet long on our conveyor line. We can easily powder coat 6 ft, 8 ft, and 10 ft parts on our automated powder coating line. Any part over 68 inches is hung horizontally with a hang hole near each end. Most parts under 68 inches can be hung vertically.

What does powder coating for store displays and visual communications entail?

For retail and visual display industries, powder coating ensures fixtures, frames, and displays look sharp and on-brand. Color matters in retail, and Testrite is able to powder coat to match Pantone colors, as well as specialized textures. Testrite provides custom color matching, smooth uniform coatings, durability for high-traffic environments, and environmentally friendly finishing.

What materials can you powder coat?

We powder coat aluminum and steel parts daily. We can also powder coat other ferrous metals. Whether you need protection for structural parts or a high-end look for customer-facing displays, we have the right coating solution.

Do you offer standard and custom colors?

Yes. We stock a wide range of standard colors and finishes, including matte, gloss, metallics, and textures. We also offer custom color matching to PMS and RAL specifications for brands that require exact consistency.

Is powder coating environmentally friendly?

Yes! Powder coating contains no solvents or VOCs. Overspray is reclaimable and the process generates minimal waste. In addition, Testrite Powder Coating has an especially environmentally friendly operation: our brand new oven is heavily insulated, reducing the energy required to cure finishes, and we use newer, greener chemistries. Testrite considers the environment in every decision it makes.
